The Gerstner Style O31 Series was the first chest to be offered with an all wood exterior. The chest was made of selected Quartered Oak and available in light, medium and dark finish. We recommended and shipped the Medium Finish unless otherwise ordered.

The Style O31 has an “O for Oak”, not a “Zero” in the style number.

The 3 models and their sizes are:
    Style O31 – 16″ wide x 11-1/4″ tall x 8-1/2″ deep
    Style O31A – 18″ wide x 11-1/4″ tall x 8-1/2″ deep
    Style O31B – 20″ wide x 11-1/4″ tall x 8-1/2″ deep

All 3 models had the same 8 drawer layout, with 2 half-width drawers on the left, 3 half-width on the right and 3 full-width drawers.

The Style O31 Series would later be expanded to a 4th Style to include a 4th version with the same drawer layout, but deeper from front to back.

    Style O31C – 20″ wide x 11-1/4″ tall x 9-1/2″ deep

The Gerstner Style 35 has a drawer layout that reminds me of the American Flag.

The Dimensions of the case were:
    Style 35 – 14″ wide x 10″ tall x 6-1/2″ deep

The Gerstner Style had the option of having a removable front lid (as pictured) or a self hinged sliding front lid.

The upper left drawer was partitioned to take four ink bottles and was 3-1/2″ tall. The 4 drawers on the right were 7/8″, 1/2″, 1/2″ and 7/8″ tall. The 3 bottom drawers were 3/4″, 1-3/8″ and 2″ tall.

I take it, this chest was for the draftsman/engineer back in its time?

I have all my old drafting equipment I used to use stored in one my Gerstner chests. Sure be nice to get my hands on one of these to put all my stuff in.

The Gerstner Style 89 and 89A

This chest was designed as a large hobby chest. It was also promoted as a Sportsman’s Chest for hunting and fishing.

Earlier versions had a removable front lid (door) that sat in a groove on the bottom. Later versions had Gerstner’s traditional self hinging front lid, which slid into the chest on steel pins.

    Overall Dimensions: 26″ wide x 15-3/4″ tall x 10-1/2″ deep

The 6-small drawers were 1/1/4″ tall and the 2-long drawers were 2-1/4″ tall.

    The Style 89 & 89A were made in the 1980’s & 1990’s
