Crafted from quality hardwood with felt lining to protect from moisture, it’s ideal for storing tools and collectibles.
As a standalone unit, this base is quite versatile. Place on a roller unit and put a laptop on top to create a mobile workspace for your workshop. Collectors like it for displaying collectibles on the flat top and placing the rest of the collection and tools inside the drawers. In the office, it’s ideal for placing printers, scanners or reference books on the top, and storing office supplies and papers in the drawer. The possibilities are endless.
Second Class Products
A “Factory Retouched” chest, often referred to as a “Second Class or 2nd Class” may have a slight blemish in the finish, a repaired glue joint or contain a piece of hardwood or veneer that has a minor defect – none of which are enough to affect the operation or durability of the chest itself.
All “2nd Class” chests are shipped with a 30-day Satisfaction Guarantee from H. Gerstner & Sons factory in Dayton, Ohio.
All 2nd Class items have been packaged for shipping and we do not track or note what was retouched on each individual chest.

Ordered the natural walnut-green-nickel to complement a walnut Journeyman’s chest. The price for a “second” was too good to pass on. While I cannot say that I poured over this “second class” base with a microscope, I could not find the reason for it being less than the premier class of my well used Journeyman. I guess my standards are too low…lol.

This is a lovely base chest that sits on my office workbench and houses my larger & heavier modelling tools. Couldn’t be happier with this decision. Plus, I really like the drawer locks, I wish these were standard on the Journeyman as well (at least for the 3 long drawers).
